I recently moved in a one bedroom apartment in los angeles, ca and completely boggled. what is this? my first thought was that it had something to do with a lock or blinds for the windows/shades/curtains/blinds. second thought was that it was a kinky toy used for things unimaginable. can you help me?

american cinema in the 60’s. an influential era in cinema. films in this time period are really something else: the way colors were used, types of shots were introduced, twisting/engagding scripts, playful agressive production…autuers in the making. how television changed film, how the assisnations that happened in that decade affected movie makers. love it! not the fact that people died, but the things that came out of it all. how come they don’t make movies close to this anymore? though this is suppose to be about american cinema it goes into heavy detail in french new wave, swedish, british films. courtesy of my roommates who gave this to me as a gift. thanks!

“What Google Earth did for mapping the Earth they now plan to do for the Earth’s oceans. Launched February 2, Ocean in Google Earth will allow users to navigate underwater without a snorkel, exploring shipwrecks, algal blooms, maps of tiny phytoplankton, even the homes of the jaunty nudibranchs. Within the layers, users can check out multimedia features that combine data and maps with videos, quizzes and other interactives, as well as photos from National Geographic. The idea for Google Ocean came about after Google Geo Products director John Hanke had a conversation a few years ago with NatGeo explorer-in-residence Sylvia Earle, marine biologist and tireless champion of the ocean and its inhabitants. She told John when he was working on Google Earth: “I hope someday, John, you’ll finish [Google Earth]. You’ve done a great job with the dirt, but there’s all that water out there– the world is blue.”" -neatorama

“….A slew of recent studies have shown that naps boost alertness, creativity, mood, and productivity in the later hours of the day.
A nap of 60 minutes improves alertness for up to 10 hours. Research on pilots shows that a 26-minute “Nasa” nap in flight (while the plane is manned by a copilot) enhanced performance by 34% and overall alertness by 54%. One Harvard study published last year showed that a 45-minute nap improves learning and memory. Napping reduces stress and lowers the risk of heart attack and stroke, diabetes, and excessive weight gain.
Getting even the briefest nap is better than nothing. A 2008 study in Düsseldorf showed that the onset of sleep may trigger active memory processes that remain effective even if sleep is limited to only a few minutes. And last year, a British study suggested that just knowing a nap was coming was enough to lower blood pressure.
Naps make you brainier, healthier, safer. But to understand how you can nap best, you need to understand your body.” -guardian.co.uk
